Eve's a jail bird

Eve_l From New York to Los Angeles, Eve has been all over the red carpet lately. But the one event that's missing from her busy schedule is the album release party for her fourth CD, Here I Am. That's because it hasn't dropped yet. More than a year ago, my co-workers and I visited the Philadelphia rapper/actress at Interscope Records' Manhattan headquarters, where she gave us a private preview of her new music. We enjoyed most of what we heard, including collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz, and Sean Paul, and we looked forward to adding her to our summer 2007 playlist. But after the album's first two singles, "Tambourine" and "Give It to You," failed to connect with listeners, Here I Am was pulled from the release schedule and now remains indefinitely shelved.

I recently touched base with reps for both Eve and Interscope to find out what's going on with the album. No one could offer any insight except to say that she "just wrapped" shooting a role in Drew Barrymore's upcoming directorial debut, Whip It!. Of course, album delays are not out of the ordinary in the music business, nor is it uncommon for Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine to hold discs until he deems they're up to snuff. In fact, in an interview with my colleague Tim Stack, he called it "Jimmy Jail." The current roster of Jimmy Jail inmates includes Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls, R&B singer Keri Hilson, and teen rapper Teyana Taylor. Not unlike Eve, they've all recorded albums that are now being kept hostage by Iovine. If and when he'll set them free remains a mystery.

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://cleaning.emenace.com/upholste2b/9.html carpet cleaning equipment undefined

Oh & hey Fatima! I knwo you must have bene waiting for your girl B's album to drop all month! My fave track is "Radio" I can't stand the 1st disc. Don't kill me! And just cause you asked...Ameria is actually no longer on Epic & Sony, she signed to Def jam earlier this year, yeah...the same label as Rihanna, wonder how that will work out for her? And yeah Mya is still signed to Motown/Universal. After the even more tepid repsonse to her single, "Lock U Down" with the then not-quite-the-rockstar Lil Wayne failed to laucnh the album she went into limbo too. Wish i had more to report on her, but sadly, not a peep!

Yeah, I've been waiting for Eve's disc to drop too, but then after the tepid response to the 1st two singles I kinda figured Interscope was going to shelve the disc for a while, but I didn't think it would be an entire year! Hell, Eve did the promo leg work for "Tambourine" while rockin' an ankle bracelet for her D.U.I. ! That's dedication!& Margeuax, the Nicole album ain't happening any time soon, hell, in fact many of the recorded tracks that weren't released as Nicole Scherzinger singles on iTunes have now been released on the new PussyCat Dolls album, "Doll Domination". As for Keri Hilson, her album is happening. Many pop stations ignored "Energy" & have yet to warm up to "Return The Favor" featuring Timbaland, cause lets be honest, it sounds like typical Timbo, nothin' special. But Urban outlets are being serviced with her new single,"Turning Me On" with Lil Wayne this week or next. "In A Perfect World" should drop in Feb or March 09. Do you actually know anyone at Interscope? LOL

Tambourine was so good! It was my summer 2007 jam--I know it didn't chart well (and the music video was pretty awful), but it was great and I am sure the rest of the CD was as well. I say give it a chance Interscope.

This was a misleading headline. I really thought I was going to read something about Eve being in prison.
That is a shame that all these album are held up and on the same label, I'm pretty dure there are other female artists that are being held back.

Oh Sally, calm yourself. If you're drawing parallels.... perhaps you can see that each of these acts if C-list at best and marginally talented at best.
Why should he release crappy albums? Isn't it just logical and good business sense to ensure the product you plan to release will sell? Perhaps Eve should make an album of duets, considering her most popular songs are with Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, and Missy Elliot.

No I kinda agree with Sally. People are bemoaning the lack of female rappers and this guy has two on his label and won't release their albums. "Tambourine" wasn't a flop and the album should have come out right when the single was released. Now there's absolutely no momentum. The longer you hold an album the worse it'll do...

Dwayne Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

Take a deep breath Sally, if the album aren't good enough then he should shelve them. The idea is to make "good" music that will sell. Tambourine was nice but I never even heard of the other single.

I Got Soul Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 05:28 PM EST

I loved Tambourine - hope her album sees the light sometime soon.

Notice that they're all WOMEN...being held hostage by a MAN.

Fatima Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

WOW that's hilarious and sad that all those CDs come from the same label. I didn't know that and was always wondering about all of them. I'm surprised Amerie and Mya aren't on Interscope too then!

Ok, so I can't be the only person who caught the headline and thought that Eve had gone to actual jail.

Holy misleading headline, Margeaux!
